Late Victorian era, ermine being the winter coat of the stoat it was usually reserved for Royalty and the higher classes, due to the rarity and cost.
This gives the capelet a very regal feel as it is synonymous with Royalty.
This is a smaller cape, could also be used a mantelet.
It is made from soft white or cream ermine fur, with black / brown tails.
It fastens down the front with hook and eye fasteners and has a woven cream silk tassel.
The backing has been more recently replaced but this has been done to a high standard.
Condition:
Good used condition, signs of use and wear commensurate with age, backing has been replaced.
