Vintage Design
Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna in 1940.
He attended the State Art Institute of Bologna, where he obtained the title of Drawing Teacher.
In 1960 he attended the Academy of fine Arts in Bologna.
He later taught Interior Design at the Istituto Statale d’Arte in Bologna for seven years. In the
same period he worked as an interior designer for twelve years at Anonima Castelli, designing
their lines of furniture for the home, office and Community, for which he filed numerous
Industrial and mechanical invention patents and ornamental models.
Among his best-known projects are PLIA, a folding chair, PLATONE, a folding table, DSC (106-
AXIS), a seating system for communities and institutional spaces, SISTEMA 61, a modular
system of sofas.
Anonima Castelli was founded in 1877 by Ettore Castelli as a cabinet-maker.
after a gradual transformation, between the sixties and the eighties the company gives shape.
